Welcome to Prakash and Nicole who will be working on an industry funded project this summer.
Katherine’s ‘In your element’ piece for Nature Chemistry was just published.

Katherine is off to the SciFoo conference in California this weekend.
Jess and Liam will be joining us for 4 weeks under the Nuffield Science Bursary Scheme. They will be working on projects to improve experiments in our undergraduate laboratories.
Katherine has two new publications on aspects of chemistry education.
- McGarvey D J and Haxton K J. ‘Using Audio for Feedback on Assessments: Tutor and Student Experiences’ Higher Education Academy, Physical Sciences Centre, ‘New Directions in the Teaching of Physical Sciences’, (2011). http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/physsci/publications/newdirections
- Haxton K J and McGarvey D J. ‘Screencasting as a means of providing timely, general feedback on assessment’ Higher Education Academy, Physical Sciences Centre, ‘New Directions in the Teaching of Physical Sciences’(2011). http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/physsci/publications/newdirections
Two Keele 2nd year undergraduate students are joining us for 8 weeks.
Ben has a Nuffield Undergraduate Summer Research Bursary for a project called: “Snowflakes and Honeycombs: Dendrimer-zeolite hybrid materials to remove nitrate and phosphate anions from water.” and will be looking at ways to functionalise dendrimer branches for anion binding.
James has a Wellcome Trust Biomedical Vacation Scholarship for a project called: “Silver bullets for bugs – how hybrid materials can improve antimicrobial wound dressings.” and will be looking at ways to combine poly(acrylic acid) and zeolites for silver binding.
David attended the MC10 conference in Manchester this week and presented a poster on his research to date called “A Zeolite / Dendrimer Hybrid for the Remediation of Heavy Metals from Water” The abstract can be found here.
